Welcome to the Tivoli Book Project
Getting started is easy ...
1. Register 2. Login 3. Begin telling your stories.
What happened on April Fool's Day? Who threw Frank in the fountain and why? How many dump trucks would it take to move Mt. Fuji? Find the answers to those questions here ... well, two of them anyway.
Remember the Friday Beer Bash? the "Fully Cooked Meat Stick" proposition? the Ministry of Truth? If so, please help the rest of us remember.
The Tivoli Book Project site is here to tell the story of Tivoli Systems during its most exciting and tumultuous time, the years between 1989, when the company was formed, through 1995, when the company went public. These were the days when Tivoli's character was defined. The company was a force of nature, gathering accolades in the press and ultimately becoming one of the biggest high-tech successes of the 1990s. All this even before the emergence of the World Wide Web and the impending Internet boom and bust.
What was it that made Tivoli so exciting? Was it the technology? the business model? the leadership? It was all those things. But more than anything, it was a culture, one that was defined by an openess to new ideas, by the competitive nature of its employees, and by their incredible group work ethic. This small group of dedicated technologists bet everything they had on Tivoli with no real expectation that anything would come of it but a paycheck.
When we decided to start this project, we wanted to tell the bigger story of Tivoli and it's impact on the high-tech world. As we started the project, we realized that the bigger story would have to come from all the smaller stories, the stories of the individuals who worked there.
And so, with that in mind, we invite anyone who worked at Tivoli during those days to tell us their stories. In the end, we hope to tell the world the Tivoli story through your words as you saw it with your own eyes.
We hope you will contribute your stories to the site. Once you sign up as a contributor, you will be granted access to the authoring pages of this site, where you will find tools for contributing your anecdotes. Over time, we hope to build out more community pages to assist you in your storytelling effort.
Thank you for taking the time to visit our site. Please sign up to become an active registered member of the Tivoli Book Project community. When it's all said and done we hope to pull your stories together to tell the larger story of the the rise of a high-tech company in the 1990s that seemed to know no limits.
Thanks,
Ric Fox (1992-1998) Guy Oliver (1993-1999)
